Aston University is a university with a city-centre campus in Birmingham, the UK's second city, and also teaches in London and online. It is celebrating 60 years and describes itself as a career-focused university of science, technology and enterprise. Students come from more than 120 countries. According to the university, it was placed in the top 5% of universities evaluated in the 2027 QS World University Rankings and was awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2023); its business school holds AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS accreditation.
Aston offers foundation programmes, undergraduate degrees, master's degrees, MBA and DBA programmes, PhDs and online courses. Subjects include business, computer science and cybersecurity, engineering, economics, law, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, audiology, biosciences, neuroscience, psychology, and politics and international relations. Many undergraduate degrees include an integrated placement year, which international students may opt out of.
International students receive free English language support, careers help with work experience, international scholarships and pathway routes into Aston. Campus accommodation, run with Unite Students, is guaranteed for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and some rooms are set aside for one-semester exchange students.

Required levels depend on the programme. Minimum IELTS overall scores for undergraduate entry include:
- Engineering and Physical Sciences, Law and Social Sciences: 6.0
- Aston Business School; Biomedicine, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Psychology: 6.5
- Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Biomedical Science, Audiology: 7.0
Most postgraduate programmes ask for IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 overall. Other accepted tests include TOEFL iBT, Pearson PTE, Cambridge CAE/CPE, Oxford ELLT and Duolingo; tests must be taken within two years of the course start date.
Aston guarantees campus accommodation for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The campus residences (Aston Student Village) are managed by Unite Students. First-year undergraduates live in en-suite rooms in flats of five or seven, mixed or single gender; postgraduates can choose 44- or 51-week contracts. Exchange students can book one-semester contracts in five-person flats, with 25 rooms set aside for them. There is no family or couple accommodation on campus, and a guarantor is required to book.
