Athabasca University (AU) is a Canadian university that describes itself as Canada's Open University. It specialises in online and distance learning, and students study at their own pace, full-time or part-time. Both Canadian and international students can apply, and the university states that it has over 40,000 program alumni from more than 90 countries.

Financial aid is available, including 11 awards specific to AU for Indigenous students. Nukskahtowin, the university's Indigenous centre, supports Indigenous learners and knowledge.
