The Atlanta English Institute (AEI) is an English as a Second Language (ESL) school in metro Atlanta, Georgia, founded by Julie Ressler in 1993. It has been accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) since 2013, with the current accreditation running from December 2018 to December 2028. AEI is also an official iBT TOEFL test centre and is certified by the US federal government to enrol international students and issue SEVIS I-20 forms for the F-1 student visa. The 22,000-square-foot campus has classrooms, a library, computer labs and a student lounge, close to the highway and public transport.
The school has three main programmes:
- Intensive English Program (IEP): eight levels, 20 hours per week in eight-week sessions
- Intensive English Course (IEC): 15 hours per week
- Test preparation for TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, USMLE and C1 Business Higher
- Individual in-person tutoring
Online ESL classes have also been available since 2021. Students can join at any time if there is space in the classes. Applicants must be high school graduates or at least 17 years old, and every new student takes a placement test.

Programmes
- Intensive English Program (IEP): eight levels from beginner to college level, 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:00 to 12:50, in eight-week sessions
- Intensive English Course (IEC): 15 hours per week, 9:00 to 11:50
- Test preparation (TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, IELTS, C1 Business Higher): 22 hours per week
- USMLE preparation for doctors taking the US Medical Licensing Exam
- In-person tutoring, for example accent reduction, business writing or conversation (minimum 16 hours)
- Online ESL classes
Admission
Applicants must be high school graduates or at least 17 years old, show financial capability and take a placement test of about one and a half hours. The initial payment covers tuition for one eight-week session plus the application fee. For international students, AEI issues a letter of acceptance and the I-20 within five business days of receiving the application, documents and payment; proof of funds covering the total expense on the I-20 is required. Test preparation courses require completion of all eight IEP levels, a placement result above level eight, or passed English exams such as TOEFL.
