BIMM Music Institute is a contemporary music college and part of BIMM University, a group of colleges that offers music, film, video game and performing arts courses at diploma, degree and master's level. It began in 1983 as Drumtech (now BIMM London) and became BIMM University in 2022. Its seven colleges are in London, Brighton, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin and Berlin. Courses cover performance, songwriting, music production, music business, event management and marketing, and all courses are taught and assessed in English.

The institute has over 460 international students from 60 countries. Its Immigration and Compliance Team issues the CAS and helps with Student visa applications, and a pre-sessional English programme is available. Auditions and portfolio reviews can be done in person or online. Undergraduates can study in several UK cities through an internal exchange scheme. The institute does not list its own residences but publishes an accommodation guide for each city.

Admission Requirements

International students can apply directly to BIMM Music Institute through its online application form, or through UCAS for undergraduate degrees. For students who need a visa, the deadline for 2026 entry is Friday 28 August 2026; applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on the course, applicants take an audition or portfolio review, in person at any BIMM college or online by video call; for undergraduate performance, songwriting and music production courses a recorded demo can be submitted instead.

Language Requirements

All courses are taught and assessed in English. General minimum scores (some courses ask for more):

  • Undergraduate degrees: IELTS Academic 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each element, Duolingo 110 (at least 100 in each part) or Cambridge C1 Advanced 170 (at least 160 in each part)
  • Postgraduate degrees: IELTS Academic 6.5 with at least 5.5 in each element or Duolingo 120
  • CertHE courses with a Student visa: a Secure English Language Test such as IELTS for UKVI 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each band

Test results must be no more than two years old at the course start date. A pre-sessional English programme is available.

Fees

International tuition fees for the 2026-27 academic year (full-time, per year): £15,950 for undergraduate degrees, one-year CertHE courses and postgraduate courses.

  • EU, EEA and Swiss passport holders: automatic discount of £6,000 per year
  • Students from outside the EU/EEA: £2,000 per year off for accepting the offer and paying the deposit by 6 August 2026

A deposit is paid on accepting an offer: £4,000 for self-funded and £1,000 for government-funded international students; it is deducted from the total fees.

Financial Aid

BIMM offers a limited number of scholarships and bursaries each academic year to applicants and students. International students benefit from fee discounts for 2026-27: £6,000 per year for EU, EEA and Swiss passport holders, and £2,000 per year for students from outside the EU/EEA who accept their offer and pay the deposit by 6 August 2026. BIMM University graduates starting a postgraduate programme from 2026 receive a £1,000 discount on UK tuition fees.

Housing

BIMM does not list residences of its own. It publishes a student accommodation guide for each of its cities (London, Brighton, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin and Berlin), covering areas to look in, types of lettings, public transport and money management.
