City Country School (CCS) is a small Montessori school in Madrid for children and young people aged 3 to 16. It was founded in 2012 by Sarah Cardelús, a Spanish-American mother, and occupies three buildings in the same neighbourhood: Elementary at Calle Isla Soledad 2, and Children's House and Adolescence at Avenida Juan Andrés 19 (both 28035 Madrid).
- Children's House
- Elementary
- Adolescence programme
The school follows a holistic Montessori approach that considers physical, aesthetic, social, emotional, spiritual and cognitive development. A typical day starts with a three-hour work cycle in which pupils choose their work and receive presentations from their guides, followed by recess and lunch, and an afternoon workshop in aikido, clay, music, play or kitchen. Lunch is cooked at school every day.
Admissions are rolling. Families visit the school at an open house or on a tour, read the school handbook (available in English and Spanish), apply online for the relevant stage and attend an interview with the head of school. The school expects parents to understand its Montessori approach and to commit to it for the long term; decisions are communicated within one month.
