Conservatoire de musique de Saguenay
Saguenay, Canada
The Conservatoire de musique de Saguenay (CMS) is a public music school in Saguenay, Quebec, serving the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region since 1967. It belongs to the Conservatoire de musique et d'art dramatique du Québec, a state corporation subsidised by the Government of Quebec, founded in 1942 by conductor Wilfrid Pelletier, which runs nine conservatories in seven regions of Quebec.
The Saguenay conservatory offers a continuum of training in musical performance (interprétation) from primary school to the second university cycle (master's level). Across the network, music training has three profiles:
- Performance, from primary to university level
- Orchestral conducting (university level)
- Composition (university level)
Teaching is personalised, with active practice and public performances at the centre of students' progress. Admission to music programmes is by audition, through the network's central admission process. Tuition for the 2026-27 year depends on residency status: students of other nationalities pay CA$784.16 per unit at first-cycle university level. The school is at 202 rue Jacques-Cartier Est and holds open days.
