Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral

The Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) is a public polytechnic university in Guayaquil, Ecuador, created by executive decree on 29 October 1958 to provide scientific and technical higher education. Its main campus, Gustavo Galindo Velasco, is at Km 30.5 of the Vía Perimetral; it also has the Las Peñas campus in Guayaquil, an office in Quito and ESPOL Galápagos. In the 2025 academic year 9,811 students were enrolled, and the university has 984 professors, 274 of them with a PhD.

The academic offer is organised in eight faculties and the ESPAE business school:

  • Art, Design and Audiovisual Communication
  • Natural Sciences and Mathematics; Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Life Sciences; Earth Sciences
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Maritime Engineering and Marine Sciences
  • Mechanical Engineering and Production Sciences

ESPOL also offers master's programmes, continuing education and doctorates in Applied Computational Sciences and Applied Biosciences. Several engineering degrees, starting with Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science in 2014, are accredited by ABET, and ESPAE holds AACSB accreditation. ESPOL has partner institutions worldwide, 37 of them in Spain, for research cooperation, academic mobility and scholarships. Applicants to undergraduate degrees in Ecuador must first complete the Registro Único with the Ministry of Education (MINEDEC).
