Madrid Montessori School is a small American school in the El Viso neighbourhood of Madrid, at Calle Genil 11. It provides Montessori education for children from 18 months to 12 years old, following the standards of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), founded by Maria Montessori in 1929. All of its teachers, called Guides, hold AMI diplomas. Many of its families are international and internationally mobile.

The school is organised in three Montessori environments:

  • Infant Community (ages 1-3)
  • Children's House (ages 3-6)
  • Elementary (ages 6-12)

Classes mix ages, children work with Montessori materials during uninterrupted work cycles of 2.5 to 3 hours, and Guides give individual or small-group lessons rather than teaching the whole class. Monthly tuition includes organic snacks and a vegetarian lunch. The school also runs programmes for expectant parents and parents of children under three.

Admission starts with an open house, followed by an application with a non-refundable fee, a classroom observation and an interview with the Head of School. Applications are accepted all year, but only those received by the end of February are guaranteed full consideration; offers are sent after 15 March, and a waiting list is kept for places that open during the year.
