Montana State University (MSU) is a public land-grant research university in Bozeman, Montana, United States, close to Yellowstone National Park. According to the university, it is Montana's largest university, with a record enrolment of 17,477 students, and it holds Carnegie classifications for very high research activity and for community engagement.
MSU offers more than 250 programmes. Its colleges cover agriculture; arts and architecture; business; education, health and human development; engineering; letters and science; and nursing, alongside an Honors College, a Graduate School and the two-year Gallatin College. Undergraduates gain hands-on experience in labs, studios, teaching farms and the surrounding wilderness.
International undergraduates apply online with a US$38 application fee, transcripts (with certified English translations where needed) and proof of English proficiency, for example IELTS 6.0 or Duolingo 110; completion of certain intensive English programmes is also accepted. SAT and ACT scores are optional. Students on F-1 or J-1 visas must provide a financial certificate and bank evidence before the I-20 or DS-2019 is issued. The Office of International Programs handles international admissions and student services, and on-campus shared rooms with meal plans are available.

International undergraduate applicants:
- Complete the online application and pay a non-refundable US$38 fee
- Submit proof of English proficiency
- Send high school transcripts (freshmen) or all post-secondary transcripts (transfers), with certified English translations; official transcripts are required before registration
- SAT/ACT optional, except usually for applicants from US high schools
F-1 and J-1 students must provide a passport copy, an International Financial Certificate and bank evidence of at least US$54,220 (undergraduate) or US$46,838 (graduate).

Completion of a specified level at partner intensive English programmes (for example ELS level 112 or EF level C1) is also accepted. Scores must be sent directly by the testing service.
