Higher education centre in Plasencia, Spain

Musikex, the Escuela Superior de Música de Extremadura, is a higher music school in Plasencia (Cáceres). The Regional Government of Extremadura (Junta de Extremadura) authorised it as a centre for higher artistic education in music by a resolution of 8 January 2018, and it has operated in Plasencia since the 2018-19 academic year. The school was founded in 2018 on the initiative of the pianist Ricardo Requejo. It has its own legal personality and is funded mainly by the fees paid by its students.

Musikex teaches the official Título de Grado en Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Música, a higher arts qualification equivalent to a university bachelor's degree, in three specialities:

  • Composition (instrument/voice and audiovisual itineraries)
  • Music Education (Pedagogía)
  • Performance, including harpsichord, viola da gamba, early plucked strings and early wind instruments as well as orchestral instruments, piano, guitar, organ, saxophone and voice

Students play in the school's ensembles, from chamber groups and early-music consorts to a symphony orchestra, and attend masterclasses by resident and guest teachers. Entrance exams (prueba específica de acceso) are held in person in Plasencia in June and September.

Admission

  • Spanish Baccalaureate (Bachillerato), university entrance exam for over-25s, a higher arts qualification, a university degree or a Técnico Superior qualification
  • Pass the specific entrance exam (prueba específica de acceso) for the chosen speciality, held in person at Musikex in Plasencia; passes from other official Spanish conservatories are also accepted
  • Applicants aged 16 to 18 without these qualifications can enter after passing a maturity test (prueba de madurez), held in Extremadura at the EASD in Mérida

For the 2026-27 intake the entrance exam fee was 75 euros.
