Spanish Institute of Puebla

Language school in Puebla, Mexico

The Spanish Institute of Puebla is a Spanish language school in Puebla, Mexico, that has offered Spanish immersion programmes since 1984. It is housed in a former 17th-century Capuchin convent four blocks from the Zócalo, the main square of Puebla's historic centre. Teaching follows the Common European Framework of Reference and the ACTFL guidelines.

The standard programme has eight levels, from beginner to close to native speaker, and each level lasts three weeks; students can take one level or several in a row. On arrival they sit a written and an oral placement exam. Courses are intensive, with six hours a day:

  • Morning group classes from 9:00 to 13:00, with a maximum of six students
  • Afternoon one-to-one conversation from 14:30 to 16:30 with a native speaker, often while visiting places in Puebla
  • Individual programmes for legal, medical or business Spanish
  • Live online Spanish lessons

Students normally live with a host family with three meals a day; hotel accommodation can be arranged on request. The group programme includes airport pick-up in Puebla, an orientation on local customs, trips to Teotihuacan and Cholula, and a closing ceremony with a diploma.
