Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) is a public four-year university in South San Antonio, Texas (United States), established in 2009 and part of the Texas A&M system. It began as the first upper-division institution in South San Antonio and has a campus of more than 700 acres. In fall 2026 it had 7,697 students; 66% of undergraduates are the first in their family to attend college. The student-faculty ratio is 18:1.

A&M-SA offers 39 undergraduate and 24 graduate programmes in four colleges:

  • College of Arts and Sciences
  • College of Business
  • College of Education and Human Development
  • College of Graduate Studies

International students apply through ApplyTexas (fee $50) and have their foreign transcripts evaluated by a recognised credential evaluation agency; English can be proven, for example, with IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL iBT 61. Conditional admission is possible except for F-1 visa students. After admission, the International Affairs office guides students through the I-20 process. Students can also take part in education abroad.

Admission Requirements

International first-year applicants:

  • Apply through ApplyTexas; non-refundable fee of $50 (money order)
  • Foreign credential evaluation report, course by course, from a recognised agency (for example ECE or WES), sent directly by the agency and no more than one year old
  • English proficiency test, unless a waiver applies
  • Evidence of meningitis vaccination for applicants aged 22 or under
  • Students who are not exempt take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment, which can be taken online from abroad

After admission, International Affairs requests a passport copy, a biographical form and proof of funds for at least one academic year (estimated at $40,450 for undergraduates) to issue the I-20. Conditional admission is not available to F-1 students. Deadlines vary by programme and student type.

Language Requirements

Teaching is in English. Minimum scores for undergraduate admission (less than two years old, sent by the testing agency):

  • TOEFL: 61 internet-based, 500 paper-based or 3.5 (new TOEFL iBT scale)
  • IELTS: 5.0
  • Duolingo English Test: 85
  • PTE: 43
  • SAT 940 or ACT 18

Waivers may be granted, after individual review, for education completed in listed English-speaking countries, 12 credit hours with grade C or better at a US institution, or the advanced level of the Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP).
