University, Graduate school in Auckland, New Zealand
The University of Auckland, whose Māori name is Waipapa Taumata Rau, was founded in 1883 and is the largest university in New Zealand, with over 40,000 students; nearly 10,000 graduate each year. The Māori name was gifted to the university in 2020 by the people of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Teaching takes place in six faculties, alongside two large-scale research institutes and other institutes and centres.

There is also a special admission route for applicants without a university entrance qualification. University Accommodation offers on-campus residences; applications for Semester One 2027 are open. On campus, the Hiwa recreation centre has a pool, gym and sports courts, and Student Hubs give advice on studies and university life most days from 8am to 8pm, including weekends.
