The British School of Gran Canaria (South campus)
Primary and secondary school in El Tablero, Spain
The British School of Gran Canaria (BSGC) South campus, known as the South School, is the school's primary section in the south of Gran Canaria, near Maspalomas, for children aged 2 to 11. Built in 1997, it has ten large classrooms and is five minutes from the GC1 motorway. Older students continue at the school's other campus in Tafira, near Las Palmas, which has a second primary section and the secondary school (ages 11 to 18).
BSGC is a non-profit school governed by an elected Board of Governors. Across both campuses it has about 650 students aged 3 to 18 from more than 40 nationalities. Teaching is in English and follows the National Curriculum of England, adapted to local and national requirements, from the Early Years Foundation Stage through Key Stages 1 to 5; older students take IGCSE and A Level exams. The school states that it is accredited as a British School Overseas (BSO) and is a member of COBIS.
Families are invited to visit and meet staff before applying. Depending on age, applicants may take an English entrance test and a maths evaluation, and new students attend taster days before the school year starts.
