Trinity College is an independent, nonsectarian liberal arts college in Hartford, the capital of Connecticut, a short drive from New York City and Boston. It has 2,056 full-time undergraduate students, and its students come from more than 60 countries. According to Trinity, it is ranked 31st on the 2027 U.S. News & World Report list of Best National Liberal Arts Colleges.
Students take more than 900 courses in over 50 majors, more than 45 minors and more than 25 experiential certificates, with over 200 academic internship possibilities and four signature study away programmes. The film studies major, for example, combines courses from sixteen departments. At graduate level Trinity offers a Master of Arts in Urban Planning and a five-year B.S./M.A. in neuroscience for its own undergraduates, and the Individualized Degree Program serves adult learners.
International applicants apply through the Common Application, with no application fee, and prove their English with the Duolingo English Test, IELTS or TOEFL; there are no minimum score cut-offs. Trinity meets the full demonstrated financial need of admitted international students, and the Office of International Students and Scholars supports students on campus.

First-year applicants submit:
- Common Application (no application fee)
- Official transcript for grades 9 to 11, the School Report and current grades
- One academic recommendation
- For international applicants: Duolingo English Test, IELTS or TOEFL results (or a waiver request)
- CSS Profile if applying for need-based aid, otherwise the Statement of Finances Form
- Certified English translations of documents not in English
An optional Trinity essay and an interview (strongly recommended) can be added. The SAT and ACT are not required, and all applicants are considered for merit scholarships with or without scores.
Applicants who attended school outside the United States submit official results of the Duolingo English Test, IELTS or TOEFL. There are no minimum cut-offs; recommended scores are:
- Duolingo English Test: 130 overall or higher
- IELTS: 7.0 with band scores of 6.5, or higher
- TOEFL iBT: 5.5 with subsection scores of 5.5, or higher
A waiver can be requested, for example with an IB English grade of 5 or higher, a B or higher in an O-Level, AS-Level or A-Level English class, or four years of study in an English-speaking country listed by Trinity.
Trinity meets the full demonstrated need of admitted international students. To apply, students indicate on the admission application that they will seek aid and complete the CSS Profile (school code 3899), which opens each year in early October. All applicants are also considered for merit-based scholarships.
