The University of Salamanca is a Spanish institution of higher learning, established back in 1134 as a "General School of the Kingdom"; it is the oldest university in Spain and the fourth oldest European university in operation. The school is located in the town of Salamanca, which is west of Madrid and close to Portugal.
The University of Salamanca is the first institution in Europe to be named ‘a university’, and still has many advantages that distinguish it from other schools: it is very well known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, attracting over two thousand foreign students each year. It is the top-ranked university in Spain based on the number of students coming from other regions, also recognized as an important center for studying humanities and particularly language studies. Scientific research is carried out there, too, as the school has very well-developed research institutes.

Admission
Requirements for access to the official master's degrees (másteres universitarios) in the 2026-27 academic year. Applicants must hold one of the following:
- An official Spanish university degree
- A degree from a higher education institution in another European Higher Education Area country that gives access to master's studies there
- A degree from outside the EHEA that has been officially recognised (homologado) as equivalent to an official Spanish degree
- A degree from outside the EHEA without recognition, after the university evaluates the foreign qualification; this does not imply recognition of the degree for other purposes
5% of master's places are reserved for students with an accredited disability of 33% or more.
