The mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien is a university of music and performing arts in Vienna, Austria, with its main address at Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1. Its public programme of concerts and performances covers opera and singing, pop and jazz, church music, new music and composition, and acting, and the Filmakademie Wien holds open days.
Applicants register for an entrance examination (Zulassungsprüfung). First-semester students can join a Buddy programme that is open to both Austrian and international students: two current mdw students accompany a group of up to nine newcomers through their first academic year (September 2026 to June 2027), helping with orientation, cultural life and everyday paperwork in Vienna.
The university runs an Info-Point for personal advice and offers free, confidential counselling for students with study-related or personal difficulties, as well as information on barrier-free study. Students also have a university library, a refectory and a bilingual university magazine.
