The University of Houston is a state research university in the USA, established in 1927. It is Texas's third-largest university with nearly 40,000 students. The Language and Culture Center (LCC) at the University of Houston was founded in 1975, providing intensive English courses for international students, who are looking to study at universities in the United States or wish to improve their language skills for personal or professional reasons. The Intensive English Program is a 13 or 14-week academic program, providing twenty hours of guided study per week. The program consists of classes in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar. Students are placed into levels, based on their placement test scores, whilst classes are held at the campus of the University of Houston, allowing international students to mix with American college students.
