Texas Southern University (TSU) is a historically Black university in Houston, Texas, founded in 1927 and one of the largest HBCUs in the United States. Its campus covers 150 acres, and it has more than 8,400 students. TSU describes itself as a comprehensive doctoral university and is accredited to award bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.
The university offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programmes in ten colleges and schools, including the Thurgood Marshall School of Law and the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Online programmes are offered through the Center for Online Learning & Instructional Technology.
International Student Affairs handles international admission, visa and immigration questions and pre-arrival information, and the university has an International Programs office. On campus there is student housing, a career centre, a tutoring centre and more than 130 student organisations. More than two-thirds of students receive some form of financial assistance.

International first-year applicants (12 years of schooling completed) submit:
- Online application and a US$78 application fee
- Official high school records and transcripts
- English proficiency results, if required
- SAT (900, Critical Reading and Math) or ACT (17 composite) scores
- Affidavit of financial support with a bank verification showing at least US$48,568
Transfer applicants need at least 15 college credit hours with a 2.0 GPA and a course-by-course evaluation of foreign transcripts. Documents not in English require a certified translation. Applications are processed only when all documents are received.
Where English proficiency is required, the minimum is TOEFL 61 (internet-based), 500 (paper-based) or 173 (computer-based), or IELTS 5.0.
