University of Münster
University, Graduate school in Münster, Germany
The Universität Münster is a university in the German city of Münster whose website lists research in mathematics, the humanities and social sciences, the natural sciences and the life sciences. It coordinates the Cluster of Excellence "Mathematics Münster: Dynamics - Geometry - Structure" in its Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and the cluster "Religion and Politics", which is now being phased out. The university also coordinates and takes part in many collaborative research programmes funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), including collaborative research centres and research training groups.
Students can enrol in bachelor's and Staatsexamen programmes, among others; for the 2026/27 winter semester some admission restrictions (NC) for first-semester students were removed. Münster is a member of Ulysseus, one of the European university alliances funded by the European Commission under Erasmus+. The university also runs a Professional School, language courses and university sports.
The Universität Münster is not a campus university and has no halls of residence of its own. Housing in Münster is scarce, especially at the start of the semester, so the university advises international students to look for accommodation several months before arriving; the Studierendenwerk is one of the points of contact.
