University of North Carolina Wilmington

The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is a public doctoral university in Wilmington, on the coast of North Carolina, and one of 17 institutions in the UNC System. Its 650-acre campus is a few minutes from the beach. In its 79th year, UNCW enrolled more than 20,500 students, the largest number in its history. The university reports that U.S. News & World Report places it 116th among public national universities and 12th nationally for online bachelor's programmes.

UNCW offers undergraduate majors and minors, graduate degrees and certificates, on campus and online. Fields range from film studies and creative writing to artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, and students in the Cameron School of Business work on real consulting projects. Marine research is a focus, supported by the research vessel R/V Osprey. The university is expanding nursing education with CFCC, a local partner college, and has taken its first step towards a new public medical school. Undergraduates can take Honors courses and applied learning opportunities.

Separate application routes exist for undergraduate, graduate and international students, and the financial aid office advises on scholarships and other aid. First- and second-year students must live on campus, in residence halls that range from shared rooms and suites to apartment-style accommodation.
