The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) is a public, comprehensive research university on an urban campus in Mount Pleasant, Harare. It was established in 1955; its former names are University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland and University of Rhodesia. According to the university, it has 17,718 undergraduate and 2,681 postgraduate students, including 287 international students.
UZ has 11 faculties and lists 207 accredited bachelor's degree programmes and 223 taught master's programmes, with MPhil and DPhil programmes in all faculties. All programmes are taught in English. Faculties include:

There is one undergraduate intake a year, in August, and applications are submitted online through the eMhare platform. International students have a dedicated International Office, visa and immigration support and orientation programmes. They are normally housed in the halls of residence with local students, and self-catering apartments are reserved mainly for international postgraduates.

Admission
Undergraduate applicants need ZIMSEC or Cambridge qualifications or equivalent: at least five O-level passes (grades A to C only), including English language, and at least two A-level passes. Some programmes set additional requirements, and admission is competitive. International qualifications are evaluated for equivalency. Applications are made online at www.emhare.uz.ac.zw, usually between January and March for the August intake; postgraduate applicants also complete a manual form. Successful candidates receive an offer letter with registration and fee information.
Housing
International students are normally housed in the university's halls of residence together with local students; most halls are on campus. Self-contained, self-catering apartments (bedroom, lounge, kitchen and bathroom) are reserved mainly for international postgraduates. Meals are served in dining halls. Rooms have basic furniture, but students bring their own bedding and toiletries. Demand is high; students who do not get a place receive advice on finding private accommodation.
