The University of Plymouth is a university in Plymouth, a small coastal city in the South West of the UK. Its main campus is at Drake Circus, close to the city centre. Teaching is organised in three faculties: Arts, Humanities and Business; Science and Engineering; and Health, which includes the Peninsula Medical School and Peninsula Dental School. The university states that it has an international community of 2,000 students from over 100 countries.

International students who need a foundation or pathway course first can study at the University of Plymouth International College (UPIC) on the main campus, with January, May and September starts. Exchange students come through partner universities in Europe, North America and elsewhere and through ISEP, and free movers can study for one or two semesters paying tuition for their modules. New undergraduates who make Plymouth their firm first choice and apply by the deadline are guaranteed a place in halls, located on campus or in the nearby Student Village.

Language Requirements

A suitable English language qualification is required for degree courses and for exchange or visiting students who receive a CAS. Accepted tests include IELTS Academic, Pearson PTE Academic, LanguageCert Academic, Trinity ISE, TOEFL iBT, Duolingo and Cambridge English; an IELTS result must be no more than three years old at the start of the degree. Courses in health professions, nursing, midwifery, medicine, dentistry and English subjects require a higher level. The published requirements apply to students with a non-EU nationality; EU students are told their English requirement during the admission process. Applicants who do not meet the requirement may be able to take a pre-sessional course.

Housing

Halls of residence are on campus or in the nearby Student Village, a few minutes' walk from university facilities and the city centre; they are provided in partnership with UPP. New undergraduates who make Plymouth their firm first choice and apply by the guarantee deadline are guaranteed a place in halls. Rooms for the 2026-2027 academic year are booked through the Accommodation Portal. Prepaid catered halls (34 weeks, breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday) are available, and the university gives information on private rented housing for postgraduate and returning students.
