The University of South Carolina (USC) is a public research university in Columbia, South Carolina, with a history of 225 years. It has more than 35,000 students and offers more than 350 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, certificates and specialities across 15 colleges and schools, including professional schools of law, medicine and pharmacy.
Undergraduates choose from more than 100 majors in 12 colleges and schools, in fields such as arts and sciences, business, engineering and computing, education, hospitality, retail and sport management, information and communications, music, nursing, public health and social work. The South Carolina Honors College serves high-achieving students, and options such as study abroad and research are part of the undergraduate experience.
International students apply as freshmen or transfers. Applicants who do not yet meet the English requirement can seek conditional admission with English Programs for Internationals, the university's intensive English programme, or join the International Accelerator Program, a one-year transition programme leading to a four-year degree at USC.

Admission
International freshman applicants submit the application with a required essay and a list of up to 10 extracurricular activities, pay a non-refundable US$100 fee and send official transcripts from all secondary schools (with a certified English translation if needed). The test-optional policy for 2027 entry applies, but English proficiency is still required depending on citizenship. Applicants can name a second-choice major. Admission is based mainly on academic performance and, where required, the English score. There are Early Action, Honors College and Regular Decision rounds.
Language requirements
Minimum English scores: TOEFL iBT 77, IELTS 6.5, PTE 53, Duolingo 115, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 560 or ACT English 22. Students from countries where English is the primary language of instruction, and graduates of US high schools, are exempt. Those below the minimum can apply for conditional admission through English Programs for Internationals (EPI).
