Clemson University is a public research university in Clemson, South Carolina, in the south-eastern United States, with the Carnegie R1 classification. Founded in 1889, it has a 1,400-acre campus in Upstate South Carolina on the shores of Lake Hartwell, midway between Atlanta and Charlotte, plus five Innovation Campuses. It has 24,060 undergraduate and 5,485 graduate students, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 16:1.
Clemson offers more than 80 undergraduate majors, over 90 minors and more than 130 graduate degree programmes, as well as the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine. Undergraduates take part in research through Creative Inquiry projects (about 4,500 a year), and the University Professional Co-op and Internship (UPIC) programme provides over 900 paid on-campus internships. Around 1,300 students study abroad each year.
International students apply through a dedicated undergraduate application route or through the Graduate School. On-campus housing is required and guaranteed for all incoming first-year undergraduates, who also buy an unlimited meal plan; options include traditional halls, suites, wet-core rooms and apartments.

Rates include utilities, air conditioning, internet, laundry and a campus post office box; continuing students are offered housing subject to availability. The 2026-27 cost estimate for housing and food averages US$14,880.
