The College of Charleston (CofC) is a public institution in downtown Charleston, South Carolina (United States). Founded in 1770, it describes itself as the 13th oldest educational institution in the country. About 12,000 students attend its urban campus, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 15:1.
The college offers majors, minors and undergraduate certificates, as well as master's degrees and graduate certificates, in schools that include business, sciences, mathematics and engineering, and humanities and social sciences. Charleston gives access to beaches and an airport with direct flights to more than 50 destinations.
International first-year and transfer students apply with the College of Charleston application or the Common App, with no preference between them, and must show English proficiency. Students enrolled at a university abroad, or secondary school graduates, can also come for one or two semesters as visiting international students. On-campus housing ranges from traditional rooms and apartments to historic houses, and there are three dining halls.
