The University of South Dakota (USD) describes itself as South Dakota's flagship university and dates back to 1862. More than 9,000 students study at its main campus in Vermillion, at the USD Sioux Falls campus, which focuses on flexible and professional programmes, or online.
USD offers more than 200 academic programmes in the arts and sciences, business, education, fine arts, health sciences, law and medicine. Its schools include:
- College of Arts & Sciences
- Beacom School of Business
- School of Education and School of Health Sciences
- College of Fine Arts
- Graduate School, Knudson School of Law and Sanford School of Medicine
For international students, the Gallagher International Center handles international admissions, student services and study abroad. Applicants are generally admitted to a bachelor's programme with a US-equivalent GPA of 2.6 out of 4.0, an ACT score of 21 or an SAT score of 1070, and USD also accepts the Common Application. First-time undergraduates are automatically considered for two scholarships, and several majors qualify for the STEM OPT extension. Students can choose among residence halls and meal plans, and the International Club welcomes new students at International Orientation.
