MBA Schools and Programs in Madrid, Spain

About MBA Schools and Programs in Madrid, Spain

An MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a postgraduate programme in general management. It covers finance, accounting, marketing, operations, strategy, people management and leadership, usually through case studies and group projects, and is aimed at graduates from any field who want to move into management roles. Madrid has a wide range of MBAs: official university master's degrees, programmes at international business schools and executive formats for working professionals.

Official and private MBAs

In Spain, an MBA can be an official university master's degree (máster universitario) of 60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits, listed in the ministry's Registry of Universities, Centres and Degrees (RUCT), or a school's own qualification (título propio). Both can be valuable for a career, but only official degrees are recognised as Spanish university degrees, so check the RUCT if this matters to you, for example for a doctorate or for recognition in your home country. Formats include full-time programmes of around one year, part-time and executive MBAs for experienced managers, and online programmes.

Admission

An MBA requires a bachelor's degree, and each school sets its own selection process. At the UAM, for example, the admission criteria include holding a degree in a field other than business administration, the candidate's CV and professional experience, a motivation letter and English at CEFR level B2 or higher. Executive programmes usually expect several years of management experience. Holders of a foreign degree who want an official Spanish master's may need the ministry's declaration of equivalence (declaración de equivalencia), which certifies the academic level of their degree (bachelor's or master's), or the university's own check of their degree.

Careers

MBA graduates work in general management, consulting, finance, marketing and sales, operations and entrepreneurship. Many students use the MBA to change sector or function, so career services and the alumni network are worth comparing alongside price and format.
