ISI Florence

Higher education centre, Graduate school in Florence, Italy

The International Studies Institute (ISI Florence) is an independent private institution in Florence, Italy, founded in 2001 as an American centre for higher education. Classes take place in two historic buildings, Palazzo Rucellai (Via della Vigna Nuova 18) and Palazzo Bargagli (Lungarno delle Grazie 22). In 2005 ISI Florence founded the Consortium for Public Universities, whose members include Pennsylvania State University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Virginia, the University of Maryland and the University of Melbourne, and it works with the Università di Firenze on several academic initiatives.

Semester, summer and full-year study abroad programmes cover subjects such as art history, architecture and interior design, studio arts, food studies and sustainability, fashion, communications, psychology, international business, STEM and Italian language. All classes are taught in English except Italian language courses and some advanced electives, and no prior Italian is required. Credits can be earned through internships and practicums. Students receive an ISI Florence transcript; where needed, transcripts can be issued by Roger Williams University or Arcadia University.

Applicants need two years of university study in good standing and a minimum GPA of 2.75. Students share apartments with other programme participants in the historic centre, within walking distance of the Institute.
