The University of Chicago (UChicago) is a research university in the Hyde Park neighbourhood on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, with its main address at 5801 S. Ellis Avenue. It has existed for more than 125 years. Undergraduate education takes place in the College, which is built around the Core curriculum and small, discussion-style classes.

Romance Languages and Literatures majors can focus on Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian or Portuguese. UChicago welcomes students from more than 100 countries. The university states that it aims to make study affordable regardless of financial ability: the Odyssey Scholarship provides a loan-free education to students from lower-income families or who are the first in their family to attend college, and UChicago Empower supports first-generation, rural and underrepresented applicants. Programmes
Undergraduates study in the College, which combines the Core curriculum with a major and optional minors. Examples of majors:
- Sciences: Astronomy and Astrophysics, Biological Sciences, Mathematics (BA or BS)
- Computer Science and Molecular Engineering (BS)
- Economics, History, Political Science and Anthropology (BA)
- Romance Languages and Literatures, with Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian or Portuguese (BA)
- Joint degrees such as International Relations (BA/MA), Public Policy Studies (BA/MPP) and Computer Science (BA/MS or BS/MS)
Scholarships and financial aid
UChicago runs several access programmes for undergraduates:
- No Barriers: financial and career support and a simplified application and financial aid process
- Odyssey Scholarship: a loan-free education for students from lower-income families or the first in their family to attend college
- UChicago Empower: support for first-generation, rural and underrepresented students and for those who have served their country or communities
