The Universidade do Algarve (UAlg, University of Algarve) is a university in the south of Portugal with campuses in Faro (Gambelas and Penha) and in Portimão. It is a member of SEA-EU, the European University of the Seas alliance.
UAlg offers courses at every level, from higher professional technical courses and undergraduate degrees (licenciaturas) to integrated master's, master's, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, as well as open courses. Areas of study are:
- Arts, communication and heritage
- Economics, management and tourism
- Science and health technologies, including an integrated master's in Medicine
- Exact and natural sciences
- Social sciences and education
- Engineering and technologies
Teaching is in Portuguese, with some programmes in Portuguese and English, and courses can be daytime, evening, blended or online. Students from other universities can come on mobility or exchange programmes, and doctoral students can do a joint PhD under a cotutelle agreement. Portuguese students enter undergraduate degrees through the national access competition (Concurso Nacional de Acesso). The university has 10 student residences in Faro, Gambelas and Portimão with 837 beds, including two new residences on the Gambelas and Penha campuses; first-year students have priority.

Housing
UAlg has 10 student residences with a total of 837 beds for undergraduate and master's students, in Faro, Gambelas and Portimão, organised as residence buildings or apartments. Two new residences on the Gambelas and Penha campuses, with 298 more beds, opened for the 2026/27 academic year; they offer shared and single studios with air conditioning, internet, study and common rooms and self-service laundry. First-year students have priority for a place.
