WAHAHA Japanese Language School

WAHAHA Japanese Language School is a small Japanese language school in the Chuo-ku district of Fukuoka, Japan, about 15 minutes on foot from Tenjin, the city's commercial centre. It was established on 7 January 2009 and its students range in age from 5 to over 70. Group classes have 2 to 4 students, and teachers can use English with beginners when needed.

Standard Courses start every Monday, cover beginner to advanced levels and are priced in two-week terms that can be extended week by week. The school does not sponsor student visas; students can study on a tourist visa. Once or twice a week it organises cultural experiences, sightseeing tours and dinner parties. Through local families and businesses it arranges private apartments, dormitory rooms, homestays and share houses, and pick-up from the airport or train station can be arranged.

Programmes

  • Standard Group Course: three 60-minute lessons a day, five days a week, in groups of up to 4 students (5 in peak seasons)
  • Standard Private Course: two 60-minute lessons a day, five days a week
  • Working Holiday Course (4 weeks): Standard Course plus classes on job interviews and CV writing
  • Translation Course (4 weeks), taught by professional translators and held twice a year (February-March and June-August); requires fluent English and JLPT N2-level Japanese
  • Business Course
  • Online private lessons for all levels
  • One-to-one lessons for Fukuoka residents, up to 4 hours a week

Standard Courses start every Monday and cover beginner to advanced levels; Fridays are dedicated to conversation.

Housing

The school arranges accommodation through local families and businesses:

  • Private apartments with kitchen and appliances, some for two people; minimum stay usually 7 nights
  • Single rooms in student dormitories with a resident manager; breakfast and dinner optional at extra cost
  • Homestay with a Japanese host family, minimum one week
  • Share house with a resident manager
