The British School - El Colegio Británico, formerly The British Council School, is a private co-educational bilingual day school in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid, for students aged 1 to 18. Established in 1940 as the first British school in Spain, it is now part of Inspired Education Group and a member of NABSS. It has been rated "Excellent in all areas" in four consecutive British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspections. Its campus is on Calle Solano (numbers 3 and 5-7) in Prado de Somosaguas.

The school is an approved foreign centre teaching the British system under Royal Decree 806/1993. Pupils follow the British curriculum plus Spanish Language and Culture (about 20% of the timetable), with English immersion from 12 months; at the end of Year 11 the school applies for homologation so that pupils receive the Spanish ESO qualification. In the Sixth Form students choose between:

  • BiBac (El Colegio Británico - Bachillerato), a bilingual baccalaureate with up to 70-75% of subjects in English
  • International A Levels (from 2026)
  • IB Diploma Programme (candidate school, planned from 2027)

Ten university guidance counsellors support students from Year 10 to 13. The school is an ABRSM Partner School for music. Applications are accepted all year, subject to availability; applicants for Years 3 to 12 take a CAT4 test.
