DIS Study Abroad

DIS Study Abroad (DIS) is a non-profit study abroad foundation established in Denmark in 1959. It offers semester, academic year and summer programs taught in English in Copenhagen and Stockholm. The programs are designed for upper-division undergraduate students from North American colleges and universities. DIS works with over 200 partner schools across North America, which simplifies the application and the transfer of credits to the home institution.

DIS lists more than 520 courses, all taught in English, and faculty-led Study Tours across Europe are part of the curriculum. Semester students choose one Core Course and three to four further courses in the same city, for 12 to 15 credits. In summer there are 3-week and 6-week sessions with one course per session, for a stay of up to 9 weeks.

Applicants need a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, at least two completed semesters at a four-year college or university in the US or Canada, and good academic and disciplinary standing. The application process depends on the home university. DIS deadlines are 15 October for the spring semester, 1 April for the fall semester and 15 March for summer. DIS places students in housing across different neighbourhoods and suburbs, including homestays for semester students; most commute by public transport, which DIS covers. Fees are paid in US dollars, and DIS states that on average 50% of its students receive scholarships or discounts.
