Dordt University is a Christian university in Sioux Center, Iowa (United States). Founded in 1955 and associated with the Christian Reformed Church, it offers an education from a Reformed Christian perspective and is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). According to the university, U.S. News & World Report ranks it sixth among regional universities in the Midwest.

Dordt offers more than 40 majors and 12 pre-professional programmes, taught by over 100 full-time faculty with a student-faculty ratio of 14:1. At graduate level it offers master's degrees in Education, Special Education, Public Administration and Social Work. Its nursing, education, social work and engineering programmes hold specialised accreditation.

International applicants must submit a test score (ACT, SAT, CLT and/or TOEFL), and international and ESL students can meet the foreign-language entry requirement with an entrance interview. About 88% of students live in campus housing, 98% receive financial aid, and the university competes in NAIA athletics.

The first graduate programme, the Master of Education, was approved by the Higher Learning Commission in 1994.

Admission Requirements

First-year applicants submit:

  • The Dordt application for admission
  • A secondary school transcript (grades 9 to 11)
  • A test score: international applicants must submit ACT, SAT, CLT and/or TOEFL results

Regular admission normally requires 17 units of secondary school credit, a cumulative GPA of 2.25 and minimum scores of ACT 19 composite, SAT 1010 or CLT 64. International and ESL students can meet the foreign-language requirement by passing the Entrance Interview. Applicants below these standards may be admitted with special provision or through the Aspire Program.
