English Language Company (ELC) is an English language school in central Sydney, at Level 5, 10 Quay Street in Haymarket. Its campus is a four-storey building next to the city's main train station, and it has welcomed international students for more than 20 years. ELC describes itself as Australia's most awarded language school and a five-time winner of the "Star English language school Southern Hemisphere" award.

Adults aged 18 and over can choose from:

  • General English, intensive, semi-intensive or premium, daytime or evening
  • General + Business English
  • Cambridge exam preparation
  • IELTS exam preparation
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
  • CELTA teacher training

There are also junior programmes for students aged 12 to 17. General English starts on any Monday and lasts from 1 to 52 weeks. According to the school, its EAP course is recognised by over 30 universities and colleges for direct entry. Students can join a free Work Ready programme and weekly social, sports and cultural activities. Housing options include homestay, ELC apartments in student residences and shared houses. ELC states that it was Australia's first accredited member of Green Standard Schools.

Intensive daytime courses have 20 hours of core classes Monday to Thursday plus up to 7 optional hours and are suitable for student visa applicants.

Language requirements

General English is open at all levels from elementary to advanced. English for Academic Purposes is for students at strong intermediate to advanced level. Students who complete at least 10 weeks of EAP, with all progress tests and a final test, can enter partner universities and colleges directly with the ELC EAP certificate, without an IELTS score.
