Judy Sharp International School is a small private, non-profit American school in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) for English-speaking students aged 11 to 18 (US grades 6 to 12). Founded in 1982 as an independent co-educational day school, it is a branch of the Judy Sharp Foundation, set up in Madrid in 1976 to help students with learning difficulties.
The school specialises in students who find traditional classrooms difficult, including those with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD or high-functioning autism and other specific learning differences. Classes average four students per teacher, and each student follows an individualised programme. Students graduate with an American High School Diploma. Through its Official Spanish Program, students can take the extra Spanish subjects needed to have their studies recognised (homologación) for the Spanish ESO and bachillerato; the school itself does not award Spanish titles but helps families with the process.
As a non-profit foundation, the school offers need-based financial aid, reviewed every year, and applying for aid does not affect admission. Admission is personalised: families email the school, complete an online form with school reports, meet the director and the student takes placement tests. The school day runs from 9:30 to 15:30.
