LUMSA (Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta) is a non-state Italian university of Catholic inspiration based in Rome, with a further seat in Palermo. Its history began in 1939 with Luigia Tincani, and the university describes itself as the second-oldest university in Rome after La Sapienza. LUMSA is part of the Italian national university system and awards legally recognised degrees. In the 26th Censis ranking it was placed first among medium-sized non-state universities, according to the university.

Some programmes have admission tests (2026-2027). LUMSA takes part in Erasmus+ mobility, offers scholarships and fee reductions, and provides several housing options for students from outside the city in Rome and Palermo.
