Louisiana Tech University is a public university in Ruston, in the US state of Louisiana, founded in 1894. It describes itself as a selective-admissions, comprehensive public university, with 12,039 students enrolled and a student-to-faculty ratio of 21:1. The academic year runs on a quarter system (fall, winter and spring quarters), which awards semester hours.
The university offers 135 degrees and programmes, from bachelor's degrees to certificates, master's and doctorates, through colleges including Applied and Natural Sciences, Business, Education and Human Sciences, Engineering and Science, and Liberal Arts.

The Graduate School offers certificates, master's degrees and doctorates to domestic and international students. Examples:

International undergraduate applicants complete the online application and email all documents to the Office of International Affairs ([email protected]).
- First-year applicants: GPA of 2.5 on the US scale (converted by the admissions coordinator), plus proof of English proficiency
- Transfer applicants: GPA of 2.25 and transcripts from every post-secondary institution attended
- For the I-20: proof of funds for each academic year (bank statement no older than six months, or a government or athletic scholarship letter)
Admitted students receive the I-20 and instructions for the F-1 visa application.
International undergraduate applicants prove English proficiency with one of the following:
- High school curriculum taught in English
- SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) score of 500 or more, or English Accuplacer 250 or more
- TOEFL iBT 4.5 (79 for tests before 2026), IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 100 or PTE 50
For the Bulldog Scholarship the English test minimums are TOEFL 4.5 (79 before 2026), IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 105 or PTE 58.
Undergraduate tuition and fees for the 2026-27 academic year, average cost per quarter for 12 or more credit hours (three quarters per academic year; final cost depends on the major):
- Non-resident: US$7,808
- Resident: US$4,125
Figures include tuition, fees, technology fee, energy surcharge and average college fee, and are subject to change. International students who receive the Bulldog Scholarship pay the resident rate.
The Bulldog Scholarship is an out-of-state tuition waiver worth about 50% of tuition; recipients pay in-state tuition. International first-year students qualify with a 2.5 GPA on the US scale and one admission test result (for example TOEFL 4.5, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 105, PTE 58, SAT 1130 or ACT 23). Transfer students need 12 credit hours and a cumulative GPA of 2.75. Recipients must keep a quarterly GPA of 2.0. International graduate students are not eligible but can apply for graduate assistantships, which also waive out-of-state tuition and fees.
Residential Life offers on-campus options ranging from traditional residence halls to apartment-style living, in buildings such as Adams, Aswell, Cottingham, Dudley, Graham, Mitchell and Richardson Halls, Legacy Park, Park Place Residential Suites and University Park. Incoming first-year students can apply for 2027-28 housing from 15 October 2026 through the housing portal.
