The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) is a university in Monroe, in northeast Louisiana (United States), and part of the University of Louisiana System. It is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and hosts international students from more than 50 countries.

ULM offers 96 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes through its colleges of Arts, Education and Sciences; Business and Social Sciences; Health Sciences; and Pharmacy, which includes a professional Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD). Online degrees are also available.

International first-year applicants must take the SAT or ACT and an English proficiency test. The Office of Global and Multicultural Affairs supports international students, and the campus has the Liew International Student Center and study abroad options. ULM publishes merit scholarships specifically for international first-year students for 2026-27.

Graduate programmes

Graduate programmes are offered in Biology, Business, Communication, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Education (Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary, Secondary), Educational Leadership, English, History, Kinesiology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Music, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Public Administration and Speech-Language Pathology. The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) has its own application process. Some graduate programmes have earlier deadlines than the general one.

Admission

First-year international applicants need secondary studies comparable to US high school graduation with a minimum GPA of 2.50, SAT or ACT scores (EBRW 500 / ACT 18 and Math 510 / ACT 19) and an English test. Documents: US$30 application fee, official secondary transcripts and exam results translated into English, SAT/ACT and English test scores, a statement of financial backing with proof of funding, and a valid passport.

Transfer applicants from outside the US need an associate degree or at least 18 college-level credit hours with a 2.50 GPA, evaluated by WES, ECE or TEC (SpanTran). Admitted students receive the I-20 form within 7-10 business days.

Language requirements

Minimum English test scores for admission: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79 or Duolingo 100. Students with IELTS 7, TOEFL 100 or Duolingo 120 are exempt from ESL courses. The test can be waived with an SAT EBRW score of 640 and a 1200 composite, or for applicants from English-test-exempt countries. Scores must have been obtained within the last two years.

Scholarships and financial aid

For international first-year students starting in fall 2026 (2026-27 award year), ULM awards merit scholarships based on high school GPA (3.0 or higher) and SAT score. Annual totals range from US$13,100 to US$20,100 and combine an academic scholarship, a housing award (only for students living on campus) and the Out-of-State Warhawk Scholarship (US$12,100). Students with an SAT of 1360 or more also receive a laptop, and those with 1450 or more a study abroad stipend of up to US$4,500. Academic scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters if the retention criteria are met.
