Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) is a four-year, state-supported public university in Joplin, Missouri (United States), in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Kansas City, Springfield, Tulsa and Fayetteville are one to two hours from campus. Founded in 1937 and originally a junior college, it serves nearly 4,300 students in more than 140 academic programmes, and its teams compete in NCAA Division II.
MSSU offers associate, bachelor's and master's degrees as well as certificates and pre-professional programmes in health sciences, business, education, technology and the liberal arts. Its Themed Semesters bring global cultures to campus through classes, events and campus experiences, and the Global Education Office runs exchange, partner and faculty-led study abroad programmes.
International students can enrol in a full degree or language programme, or come as exchange students for one or two semesters. Applicants who do not reach the required English test score can join the Intensive English Program first. On campus, students can choose between several housing options, including Living Learning Communities for students with shared academic interests.
