Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is a public research university in Rolla, Missouri (United States), part of the University of Missouri System. It was chartered in 1870 as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy and holds R1 status, the highest research classification of the Carnegie Classification. More than 7,000 students are enrolled, on campus and through distance learning.

Teaching is organised in the College of Engineering & Computing, the College of Arts, Sciences, & Education and Kummer College. Areas of study include engineering, computing and information technology, business, education, the physical and social sciences, and the liberal arts and humanities, with bachelor's degrees as well as master's, MBA and PhD programmes. Students can join one of 21 student design teams and more than 250 organisations and clubs.

International students can apply for a full degree or come as study abroad or exchange students for one or two semesters. Admission is on a rolling basis. Applicants who meet the academic requirements but not yet the English requirement may be admitted through a Pathway Program that combines degree classes with one English course in the first semester.

Admission Requirements

Applications go through the S&T application or the Common Application, on a rolling basis with no firm deadline. Admission is selective and based on:

  • Secondary school core curriculum, GPA and class rank
  • ACT/SAT scores if available (not required for international students)
  • Transcripts from all secondary schools attended (unofficial accepted for the decision; official after admission)
  • English test scores
  • Optional personal statement of up to 500 words

Applicants must choose a specific major (not "undecided"), and proof of financial support is needed for the immigration documents.

Language Requirements

Full academic admission requires one of: TOEFL 4.5 (80 for tests before 1 January 2026), IELTS 6.5, PTE 58, Duolingo 115, Cambridge English 176, SAT ERW 500 or IB English HL 5. Graduates of universities in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada (except Quebec) are exempt.

Pathway Program: applicants with TOEFL 3.5 (60), IELTS 5.5, PTE 50, Duolingo 105 or Cambridge 162 can start their degree while taking one English course (English 1110) in the first semester.
