Pittsburg State University (Pitt State) is a university in Pittsburg, Kansas, in the United States. It opened in 1903 as the Kansas State Manual Training Normal School Auxiliary and took its current name in 1977. Nearly 6,000 students study there, including more than 400 international students from 40 countries, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1. The university emphasises hands-on learning.
Teaching is organised in four colleges: Arts and Sciences, the Kelce College of Business, Education and the Crossland College of Technology, which offers engineering technology, construction and automotive programmes. Pitt State also offers master's and doctoral degrees and graduate certificates. International students apply through the Office of International Programs and Services and need a TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo score; applicants without one can be admitted conditionally and first complete the Intensive English Program (IEP). Exchange students are accepted for the fall (August) and spring (January) semesters.
Students can live in traditional halls, suite-style residences, apartments in downtown Pittsburg or family housing.
