Radford University is a comprehensive public university in Radford, in southwest Virginia (United States), with 7,917 students on a 211-acre campus near the New River. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, bachelor's, master's, specialist and doctoral degrees. More than 1,000 health sciences students study at Radford University Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia.

The university offers 75 bachelor's degree programmes in 47 disciplines, 27 master's programmes and five doctoral programmes, plus certificates. Colleges include the Davis College of Business and Economics, the Artis College of Science and Technology, the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences and the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Graduate health programmes include athletic training, occupational therapy, physical therapy and physician assistant studies. Radford competes in NCAA Division I and has more than 200 clubs.

The McGlothlin Center for Global Education and Engagement handles international recruitment, admission and arrival. International undergraduates submit an online application, transcripts in English and proof of English (for example TOEFL 68 or IELTS 6.0), and pay an US$800 enrollment deposit after admission. International tuition equals the out-of-state rate, and all international freshmen and transfers are considered for merit scholarships of US$6,000 to US$10,000.

Applications go through the Graduate Admissions website (US$50 fee) or, for some health programmes, a centralised application service.

Admission Requirements

International freshmen submit:

  • The online application
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • Official transcripts in English from all secondary schools and universities attended (Radford may ask for a WES, ECE or TEC evaluation)
  • A copy of the passport biographical page
  • Original financial statements no older than six months covering one full year of costs, with an Affidavit of Support if sponsored

Transfer applicants must also provide a third-party transcript evaluation. Admitted students pay an US$800 non-refundable enrollment deposit. Graduate applicants apply through Graduate Admissions with a course-by-course credential evaluation.

Language Requirements

Minimum scores (within the last two years), undergraduate / graduate:

  • TOEFL: 68 / 79
  • IELTS: 6.0 (5.5 in reading) / 6.5
  • Duolingo: 100 / 105
  • PTE 50, TOEIC 620, Cambridge B2/160, SAT reading and writing 480
  • IGCSE/GCSE/GCE grade C in English

Students transferring from a US institution or who studied in a listed waiver country (including the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) are exempt.

Financial Aid

All international undergraduate freshmen and transfer students are automatically considered for a merit-based scholarship of US$6,000 to US$10,000, based on their academic record, with no separate application. Radford University Foundation Scholarships (about US$2 million to over 700 students) can be applied for between 1 November and 5 February for the following fall. Graduate students should ask Graduate Admissions about scholarships and assistantships.
