Colegio Internacional Sueco (International Swedish School)
Primary and secondary school in Alcobendas, Spain
The Colegio Internacional Sueco (International Swedish School), formerly the Colegio Internacional Escandinavo, is an international school in Alcobendas, north of Madrid, at Camino Ancho 14. Founded in 1944, it teaches children aged 18 months to 18 years and has about 400 students. The school is owned and run by a non-profit parents' association.
It has two sections. The Scandinavian section follows the Swedish curriculum and teaches in Swedish, from preschool to upper secondary. The International section follows the Cambridge programme and teaches in English; it is approved to offer Cambridge Primary, Lower Secondary, Upper Secondary and Advanced programmes. Music plays a central role across the school.
The Swedish section is governed by the Swedish National Agency for Education and inspected by the Swedish Schools Inspectorate. The International section is authorised by the regional authorities following inspection by the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS) and certification by the British Council. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is authorised by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Applications are accepted throughout the year; where there is a waiting list, siblings and children of Nordic origin have priority.
