Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) is a university founded in 1901, with its main campus in Weatherford, Oklahoma, on historic Route 66, and remote locations in Sayre and Yukon. It offers more than 100 fields of study, and 14 of its programmes are nationally accredited.

Programmes range from associate and bachelor's degrees in business, computer science and artificial intelligence, engineering technology, sciences, education, music, nursing and health sciences to master's degrees such as the MBA, education, counselling, nursing and music, and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) at the College of Pharmacy.

SWOSU welcomes hundreds of international students each year from more than 35 countries. Its International Student Services team supports them from application to enrolment and immigration, and an International Student Association organises cultural activities. Students whose English scores are below the minimum can study English first through The Language Company. On campus, students can live in several coed and single-sex residence halls, with free laundry.

Admission

International undergraduates (F-1) apply online, upload their documents to the SWOSU admission portal and pay a non-refundable US$100 application fee. Required documents: high school transcript translated into English, English test score, passport copy, the Undergraduate Certificate of Financial Resources signed by the sponsor and a recent bank statement in the sponsor's name. Transfer students submit transcripts from US institutions and a course-by-course evaluation by a NACES agency for studies abroad. Some mostly online programmes may not qualify for an I-20.

Language requirements

Minimum scores for international undergraduates: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 61, PTE Academic 44 or iTEP Academic 3.5. Applicants below the minimum can study English (ESL) at The Language Company; those slightly below (TOEFL 48, IELTS 5.0, PTE 36, iTEP 3.0) may complete 12 weeks there.

Housing

SWOSU has several residence halls in Weatherford: coed halls with suite-style rooms (Black Kettle), gender-neutral options (Mann Hall South), Oklahoma Hall with most private-room requests, Stewart Hall for women and Neff Hall for men. The Mary Mabry Savage Apartments are for married or single-parent students. Laundry is free.
