Australian Centre of English (ACE) is an English language college in central Sydney, Australia, established in 2014 as an ELICOS provider (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students). It is on the 2nd floor of the Hyde Park Plaza Building, 38 College Street, Darlinghurst, close to Central Station, Chinatown and the CBD, and is registered under CRICOS provider code 02871C.

Courses:

  • General English, elementary to upper-intermediate, full time (20 hours per week), for students over 18
  • IELTS Preparation for the Academic and General Training modules, from intermediate (CEFR B1) level
  • Elective classes
  • Group study tours

Classes run in the morning or the afternoon, and there are monthly excursions. Students apply directly to ACE with an enrolment form or through an education agent; after full payment ACE issues the electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) needed for the student visa. ACE can book homestay before arrival through the Australian Homestay Network.

Admission Requirements

  • Apply directly with the Student Enrolment Form (by email or post) or through an education agent that represents ACE
  • ACE sends an offer letter with all fees; after full payment it issues the electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) needed for the student visa
  • General English has no entry requirements other than being over 18
  • On the first day students sit a placement test and attend orientation

Language Requirements

General English is open to all levels; students are placed in a class according to a placement test. IELTS Preparation requires at least intermediate English (CEFR B1).

Housing

  • Homestay: own room, meals and study space with a host family, booked by ACE before arrival through the Australian Homestay Network (request it on the enrolment form)
  • Student housing from private providers in Sydney
  • Shared or private rentals arranged by students themselves
