The College of St. Scholastica is a private Catholic Benedictine college in Duluth, Minnesota (United States), on the shores of Lake Superior, founded in 1912. Besides its Duluth main campus it has a Health Science Center in Duluth, a location in St. Cloud (Sartell) and online programmes. It has more than 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students from more than 27 countries.

Programmes are offered through the School of Health Professions, the School of Arts and Sciences and the Stender School of Leadership, Business and Professional Studies, from bachelor's degrees to master's and doctorates:

  • Nursing, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and PA medicine
  • Business management, accounting, finance and computer science
  • Biology, biochemistry, chemistry and pre-health programmes
  • Education, psychology, social work and the humanities

International undergraduates apply with the college's international application or the Common App; no SAT or ACT is required, and English can be shown with TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 105 or PTE 53. All admitted international students receive a Global Benedictine Scholarship based on GPA and an $8,000 Global Grant tied to living on campus. International students live on campus for two years, and first-year students live in Somers Residence Hall. The college does not offer an ESL programme.

Admission Requirements

  • St. Scholastica International Student Application Form (the Common App is also accepted)
  • Completed secondary school including humanities, laboratory sciences, mathematics, social sciences and history; U.S.-equivalent GPA of at least 2.5 (2.0 for transfer students)
  • Copies of all secondary school transcripts with English translations; foreign university transcripts evaluated by a NACES or AICES member
  • Proof of English proficiency (tests within two years)
  • No SAT/ACT required

The admissions counsellor helps admitted students with the F-1 visa process.

Language Requirements

Classes are taught in English. Applicants need, within two years of applying, TOEFL iBT 79 (213 computer-based, 550 or 57 paper-based), Duolingo 105, IELTS 6.5 or PTE 53. The college does not offer an ESL programme.

Fees

Estimated annual expenses for international first-time students, 2026-27 (USD): tuition $44,040, food and housing $12,968, fees $1,374, required health insurance (estimated) $2,020 and books $1,200, for an estimated total of $61,602 before financial aid. Travel, computer and personal expenses are not included.

Financial Aid

All admitted international students pursuing a first undergraduate degree receive a Global Benedictine Scholarship based on GPA, plus a Global Grant of $8,000 as long as they live in on-campus housing. Both are renewable for up to three more years with full-time enrolment, a 67% completion rate and a GPA of 2.0 or better.

Housing

International students must live on campus for two years (some transfer and non-traditional students may live off campus). First-year students live in Somers Residence Hall dorms and suites, with a required meal plan ($6,794 a year plus meal plan in 2026-27; single rooms $10,190, not guaranteed). Upper-class students can choose super single rooms or two- and four-bedroom apartments (Maple, Willow, Birch, Cedar, Scanlon and Kerst Hall), from $7,712 to $8,868 a year in 2026-27, utilities included.
