The Universidad Católica Santa Teresa de Jesús de Ávila (UCAV) is a Catholic university founded in 1996 under the Diocese of Ávila. It has two campuses in the city of Ávila, on Calle Canteros and Avenida de la Inmaculada, and three faculties: Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Law, and Sciences and Arts. According to the university, it has 7,287 students.

UCAV offers 14 official bachelor's degrees, official master's degrees, doctoral programmes and more than 200 of its own qualifications, including expert certificates that students can combine with their degree. Degrees can be studied on campus, in a hybrid format or fully online: all students use a platform to join classes live, recorded lectures are available, and exams are taken in person at centres in several Spanish regions. The university has two affiliated centres, the Escuela Fray Luis de León and the Clínica Mompía.

International mobility runs through Erasmus+ and agreements with universities in the United States, and UCAV has bilateral agreements with more than 60 institutions in America, Asia and Europe. It also promotes work placements in companies. UCAV has no accommodation on campus, but its International Relations Office helps exchange students book a room in a hall of residence in Ávila; shared flats are rented from private owners.

Scholarships and financial aid

UCAV students can apply for the study grants of the Spanish Ministry of Education, the Junta de Castilla y León and the university's Asociación de Amigos, among others. According to the university, it also spends more than €600,000 each academic year on tuition discounts based on family income and more than €100,000 a year on sports scholarships.

Housing

UCAV does not provide accommodation on campus and does not own student flats. Options in Ávila:

  • Halls of residence not owned by the university, mostly single rooms with bathroom, approximately €600 to €900 per person per month including all meals; the International Relations Office can help book a room
  • Rooms in shared flats rented from private owners, with shared kitchen, living room and bathroom

Residences charge a deposit that is not refunded if the student leaves within three months of arrival.
