Università degli studi di L'Aquila
University in L'Aquila, Italy
The Università degli Studi dell'Aquila (UnivAQ) is a state university in L'Aquila, with its seat at Palazzo Camponeschi. Established as a free university by a 1964 presidential decree, it became a state university from the 1982-1983 academic year. Since 2012 teaching and research are organised in seven departments covering engineering, information science and mathematics, economics, medicine and life sciences, biotechnology, physics and chemistry, and the humanities.
The university offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees (laurea magistrale) and single-cycle degrees, as well as doctorates, postgraduate master's and medical specialisation schools. Several master's degrees are taught entirely in English, for example:
- Control Systems and Automation Engineering
- Telecommunications Engineering: Advanced Technologies and Services
- Neurosciences
- Atmospheric Science and Technology for Meteorology and Climate
- Mathematical Modelling (InterMaths Erasmus Mundus network)
It also runs joint and double degrees with partner universities abroad. Physics teaching and research are linked to the Gran Sasso National Laboratories (LNGS) of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare and to the Gran Sasso Science Institute. International students go through a preselection for their chosen course; applicants who need a visa must also pre-enrol on the Universitaly portal. Italian-taught courses require Italian at level B2, and English-taught courses require proof of English.
